Well here we are and it is the longest day - and it is soooo cold - I had to put on my M&S cardigan!
Still made the most of the day - helped by a couple of texts from my dearest mother received at 6am this morning - blank mind you. Rang to see if there was a problem and was informed there was no problem and that she was just looking at what the phone could do and how it worked. Bless you mother ![]()
Thankfully managed to get a couple more hours of shut eye in my now even more gourgeous bed - just bliss - and so cool now have got my ipod and speaker behind the bed.
Anyhow busy day today - headed off to the Herald Careers Expo at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. This apparently different from the Melbourne Convention Centre which is on the other side of the Yarra and if you had gone this morning to the Convention Centre you would - as happended to me - have found it pretty empty.
Still managed to find the map and realised I was in the wrong place - did have the right day though which was a relief!
Had a bit of a chuckle on the way - guy got into his van to reverse out of a secure parking spot - thought he must realise he has to take down the metal bar behind him and off a trundle only to hear seconds later a lound clunk and turn round to see one rather bashed metal post. Such is life.
The Careers Expo was good - got a free paper to start and a free bottle of water to get me warmed up. Much like most Expos is was really just a number of stands with people from places like unis and agencies - bit of a mish mash really but some interesting info on offer. Got chatting to a few stands including one representing a conference organisation based in the uk but setting up over here in oz. Also stand of the Federal Health Department - three very nice ladies who offered some of their wares ![]()
Was kinda amusing - they gave me a bit of an overview of what they did and then I provided them with some flavour of what I had been involved in - at this point they were all sitting down. Until I mentioned that I had been involved in an audit of patient safety a few years ago and then they all simultaneously stood up - quite bizarre as if I had just said I was related to royalty or something - highly bemused.
Anyhow chatting to a couple of other stands - unis including one doing stuff on sustainability which seems a bit of a hot topic over here.
Then headed off to South Melbourne to the Chef's Hat sale which came recommended by my Melbourne Guru L.
And of course Melbourne being Melbourne - hope on a tram and you're there!
Got a bit of brekkie as spotted a Coffee Place and then off to Chefs Hat. Got in there and it was a riot - loads of people rummaging through lots of boxes - pretty full on. Had a peruse round and spotted the Raco toaster had had my eye on for a while - was on offer so a purchase was made - also found a 2 litre metal teapot for $10!!!!!
Well made up, I headed back to the tram and back home. On the second tram, ended up sitting opposite someone who was looking a bit anxiously at a map. After a bit, I asked her if she was ok and knew where she was going. Of course, she was heading towards Chapel St. We got chatting, she said she was from Leeds, but now living in Sydney. We had a bit of banter - she said she was loving Sydney and pondering on applying for perm res - I said she should go for it.
So back home - a bit more tearing up cardboard boxes, whipped up a smoothies and put some washing on (hope this is not too boring! tee hee) and had a bit of a tidy up.
Then headed out again - to Toorak Library (v.impressive) and then to Freedom to get some red place mats, then to check mailbox and then train from South Yarra to Prahran to Rebel Sport to look at rollerblades - range of prices and quality - key is the ABAC or whatever it is which means how good the ball bearings are. Of course I would prefer smooth as that will help me go faster - not sure want to be dealing with rough bearings at my age ![]()
And so back into town. Perused handsets, current nokia mobile is past its sell by date and am moving towards the LG viewty but need to do a bit more research before the final purchase it made.
Well tis 4pm now - off to Winter in July at fed Square and then the Press Club to celebrate L's birthday with her, her bro and his g'friend.
All for now - don't forget - slip, slap, slop!
